General survey

• The General Directorate of State Security, was established by the virtue of  constitutional decree  nº 1 date 26/9/84, which amended the text of clause 5,  article 7, of the constitutional decree nº 102 ( law of  National Defense) as following:   "A General Directorate is constituted at  the Superior Council of Defense called  "the General Directorate of State Security", which is subordinated to the Council's  President and  Vice-President."

• On the Cabinet 's approval, on  22/8/1985, decree nº 2661 date 3/9/1985 was promulgated (Organization of the General Directorate of State Security). Consequently,  the General Directorate of State Security has undertaken its missions.

• The responsibles who consecutively administrated the General Directorate of State Security are:

        1- General Mustapha NASSER, from 1/12/1984 till 17/02/1988

        2- Councelor Antoine TRABULSI (by interim), from 17/02/1988 till 17/11/1988

        3- Major General Nabih FARHAT, from 17/11/1988 till 21/12/1988

        4- Major General Edward MANSOUR, Marine Engineer, from 21/12/1988 till 05/05/2005

        5- General Hasan FAWWAZ, (by procuration) from 05/05/2005 till 10/10/2005

        6- General Elias KAAYKETI, (by procuration) from 10/10/2005 till 21/03/2010

        7- Brigadier-General Mustapha DAKROUB, (by procuration) from 21/03/2010
