MajorFadi Mahmoud lecturing at a seminar entitled: "Social media sites and their implications on social, health and security levels"
The Educational Support Center - Dmit (Chouf), held at the Center for the Conservation of Forest Inventories - Dmit, an educational seminar entitled: "Social media sites, and their implications on the social, health and security levels", with the participation of Major Fadi Mahmoud, Head of Investigation Department at the General Directorate of State Security, along with specialists and researchers.
Major Mahmoud highlighted the security problems arising out of the misuse of social media sites, their impact on national security and patterns of threats, and their use by the enemy and terrorist groups to spread ideas and recruit agents, as well as the spread of new types of criminal crimes resulting from them (such as extortion,kidnapping, prostitution and illegal trade).
He also pointed to the existence of modern Lebanese legislations, in terms of establishing controls to reduce the abuse of social media and cybercrime.
Mayssa Abdel Khaleq, a media professional, gave a detailed presentation of the reality of social media and the extent of their impact on children in various fields, and warned of the negative impact of social media through fuelingresentment and provokingstrife.
Dr. Youssef Zahreddine spoke about the impact of these sites and electronic devices on health because of their excessive use.
In turn, psychotherapist Sana’ Barakatcalled parents to monitor their children to prevent disordersarising out of the misuse of technology, and warned of the resulting psychological risks.
Ms. Samar Daou, Director of the Educational Support Center, explained the media content of social media and the impact of the content of information and media messages on changing concepts in society.
The seminar was concluded with the distribution of certificates of honor and appreciation to the participants, and to Mr. Raed Al-Qamand, Director of the Center for the Conservation of Forest Inventories - Dmit.
